Did you catch the recent news about the direction Instagram is heading? The head of the company came out and announced several upcoming changes that will be made to the platform. They emphasized the growth of other platforms such as Tik-Tok and YouTube as catalysts for the ongoing updates.
No longer will only the people you follow be shown on your feed, but as well recommendations that Instagram makes for you. This is very reminiscent of Tik-Tok’s FYP (for you page), which appears to be the direction Instagram is heading.
There will also be a push for creators to use immersive, full-screen video more within the Reels section. It will be interesting to see how these plans develop, but one thing is for sure, Instagram feels like they are falling behind.
Check out what the head of Instagram had to say below, and then follow up with our Trinity Media Minute to share your thoughts.

[Transcript]
I don’t know if you guys heard the news. But a few weeks ago, the head of Instagram came out and said that the platform was no longer just a photo sharing app. So what does that mean for the everyday user of Instagram?
First off, you can expect to see not only the people you’re following in your feed, but also people and things that Instagram is recommended for you.
Second, you’ll notice more of an emphasis on immersive full screen video, such as real as we go forward and adjust to these changes.
It’ll be interesting to see how the platform of Instagram evolves into a Tik-Tok clone, or if they’re just making Facebook-esque tweaks. Let me know how you guys are adjusting to the updates and I’ll talk to you soon.
