Hey everyone, welcome to another bonus episode of the New Marketing Show. Thanks for checking us out on YouTube, Instagram TV, our website, Stitcher, Spotify, all that great stuff. So we definitely appreciate you, you know, today I want to talk about just a couple of digital media trends and that we’ve been noticing and then a lot of other people have been talking about, you know, the first thing being that older Americans
50 and older are getting most of their news and most of our information now from mobile phones. So they’re not, they’re no longer using traditional media sources, such as radio and television, or definitely print.
What they’re doing now is they get it in a feed, or they get it you know, from different websites that they go ahead and check out. This tells you that you need to make sure that your site is 100%, more responsive, and also indexed for mobile. And you know, that it’s using Google
Best mobile practices. That way you can go ahead and reach those people. Another interesting trend is that younger Americans 21 and young 21, or 25, and younger, are no longer using Facebook. What they do now is they’re consuming most of their information through Instagram. So it’s interesting how the landscape shifts.
So as you know, new media, as we used to call it, as new media becomes more and more mature, I don’t want to call it old media. But as it becomes more and more mature, you know, the consumption habits, definitely start changing and consumption habits will always change as the landscape and as the ages of the users also tend to shift.
Another important thing that you need to really, really understand and recognize is the power of smart speakers.
You know, I use Soto’s in my home and so now we have Sonos hooked up to Alexa, but with our sono system, we can only use certain streaming devices now I’m a big podcast fan, no surprise there. So one of the things that we use is we use Stitcher.
So if you’re using a smart speaker, and you’re trying to reach people who use smart speakers, make sure that you’re publishing your content on platforms that’s available via the smart speaker. If I were to just say, hey, Alexa, play the syndicate on Stitcher, it would go ahead and find it, or the same thing with Spotify.
You know, Spotify is a very, very powerful podcasting platform, you know, and it’s going to continue to grow, you know, different marketer. So, those are just four interesting thing that’s going on.
Also, you know, during this time of the pandemic, you know, here we are in August, everything started in February, March, you know, definitely the East Coast.
The hard lockdown happened, you know, early to mid March, people screentime have has increased, people are definitely on their phones, more people definitely using social media, more podcast, statistics are through the roof, because people are trying to consume as much content as they can to either maintain a normal life or to go ahead and kill some time or they have nothing else to do or they’re trying to better themselves learning new things.
So it’s interesting how, as times go on as the landscape shifts and things tend to change.
The more that you pay attention to what’s going on, the better you will be positioned to go ahead and make sure your message is heard. So, everyone, thanks for checking us out.
