A couple of weeks ago Trinity Web Media decided to start a podcast. Well, that’s not entirely true — we decided to start a podcast in August of 2017 but made it happen Q1 2018. The New Marketing Show is live on iTunes and other podcast networks. (Give a listen and if you like what we do, please subscribe on your favorite podcast platform.)
Why We Wanted To Start A Podcast
The Back Story
Trinity Web Media engaged in our most aggressive content marketing plan. Twice a week we post videos on Instagram and Facebook and re-purpose them to YouTube and our marketing blog. We have articles posting to the blog and of course a social media initiative, but something was missing. Audio.
Being the co-founder of the now-defunct marketingpodcasts.com with Jay Baer and working with his company Convince and Convert exposed me to the power of podcasting and audio. So, I learned how to produce podcasts, syndicate the podcast and broadcast with a couple of personal shows. The shows were short-lived, but some of the best passion projects ever.
Now The Why
Audio is a powerful medium. When you podcast, you are tapping into a new audience. If positioned correctly your show has the potential to introduce your brand to a whole new audience. An audience of like-minded people who can effect change in your business.
The opportunity to educate and coach, exhibit your subject matter expertise and effect change in others to me is priceless. Also, with consistency and with exemplary content the world of opportunity can open for us hosts, our employees, stakeholders, and clients. (Plus now, my Mom thinks we are cool.)
Posting podcasts to your blog from syndicated networks like iTunes, Podbean, Spotify, Soundcloud, I Heart Radio, Stitcher and Libsyn can be a valuable source of traffic to your site. Very valuable source of traffic.
Podcasting is hard work, and you are constantly learning on the job and in public. These are facts that I was not naive to from my past attempts at starting a show. Your show better be good and not sound like it was recorded in the shower. You need to know there is a ton of strategy that goes into getting your show heard. Remember you are competing for attention with the big guns of podcasting and within your niche. (The riches are in the niches.)
The above things when first read may sound like negatives, but they are all learning opportunities. Valuable learning opportunities.
We felt as a team the audio component of our own content marketing strategy was missing, so we did something about it.
Why You Should Podcast
The same reasons that Trinity Web Media and WordPress Development started a show are the same reasons why you should host a show. If you are struggling to find the reasons to podcast, please re-read the above paragraphs. Plus, it is rewarding as hell.
Give it a go, give The New Marketing Show a listen, subscribe, tell a friend and drop us a line when you start your podcast.
