Podcasting, WordPress and How We Make The New Marketing Show Happen

Podcasting, WordPress and How We Make The New Marketing Show Happen

As you know Trinity Web Media hosts a podcast that revolves around solving business problems. This is not a WordPress Podcast, Digital Marketing Podcast or another Social Media Podcast, but rather a show about how intelligent web design and digital marketing solves business issues.

One of the questions we hear often is how do you record, produce and post your podcast to WordPress. Since we are over 200 shows into our podcasting journey, I thought this was a great time for us to talk about what goes into the making of The New Marketing Show.

WordPress Podcast

Podcast Recording / Equipment

The New Marketing Show is recorded using Zencastr. Zencastr is a great cloud-based VoIP recording platform that is easy to use, sounds great and works for us. This (paid) tool, offers various ways to record over ZOOM, Skype or through their own recording interface, which is how Trinity Web Media records.

One thing Kevin and I have done over all of our episode is use a video service as we record in Zencastr. We prefer Google Hangouts, with a muted mic to remove the chance of echos and feedback. I know we could just do this through one app, but we found that by having a separate video channel the audio is clearer. Why use video? Through all of our recordings, and especially with guests, we felt that having a face to face (or video to video) experience it facilitates a more natural conversation and it avoids overlap and talking over one another.

The New Marketing Show is recorded using Tonor microphones and we typically use Apple iPhone headphones. The minimum mic requirement can be as simple as using the Apple iPhone headphones, but we do not recommend Air Pods due to the high likeliness of background noise.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that if you have a set recording schedule episodes can be created ahead of time and scheduled in advance to post on a consistent basis. (Consistency is always key.)

Podcast Production

Nate Baldwin, Trinity Web Media’s show producer mixes the show in Adobe Audition. In the past, I have used Zencastr’s interface to mix the show along with Garage Band. Adobe Audition (or the like) allows Nate to remove background noises, easily edit out fillers (uh and ums) and place the intro/outro bumpers.

Trinity Web Media uses a pre-developed template with pre-recorded into/outro bumpers that were recorded by a professional voice artist. (I believe the voice artist was hired through Fiverr.)

Podcast Hosting & Syndication

The New Marketing Show is hosted with Podbean. Podbean is simple and allows you to posts an unlimited amount of episodes with a paid account. This service also gives you a platform to create a show website. Now, it’s not a WordPress podcast site, but it can serve as a good archive site for your show.

The other main podcast hosting platform to consider is Libsyn.

Through our show’s Podbean RSS feed, our show is syndicated on iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Podcoin, I Heart Radio and others. We recommend getting your show out there to wherever makes sense for your audience.

WordPress Podcast Posts

On our main site, TrinityWebMedia.com, we developed specific WordPress podcast archive pages and sidebar templates. These custom post types and specific sidebars take our audience through a better listener experience than how the rest of the site’s content pages was created. These pages allow for the audience to easily subscribe to the show on through their desired listening app.

All shows are posted to the ‘Podcast’ category on our site with the show notes. The actual show is embedded via Podbean’s embed code, which gives the audience yet another way to listen and interact with the show.

Promotion

Once everything is said and done, we still need listeners — so the team goes into promotion mode. The bulk of The New Marketing Show’s promotion is done through social media. We use audiograms for Instagram and Twitter, plus we let everyone know when new episodes are available via email and Facebook.

Good show art is always key to gaining an audience. Show art should be simple enough to read, yet comprehensive enough to let the listener understand exactly what they are getting.

So there it is. This is how Trinity Web Media makes The New Marketing Show happen and yes it is a lot of work, but it does not have to be a complicated process. If you have any additional questions, please let us know and will be happy to answer them for you and assist you on your WordPress and Podcasting journey.

If you need to take your web/digital program to the next level, these are the guys to see. Fast, honest, innovative and totally on top of it. Highly recommended! • Jay Baer – NY Times Best-selling Author, Founder/President – Convince and Convert

What our clients say…

While I’ve known Greg for years from our time together in the marketing scene, I’ve only recently had the chance to work with Trinity Web Media on a client project. Not only was the team professional and their work spot on, they were amazingly quick to respond and required very little hand-holding along the way. I chalk that up to their past experience and a deep understanding of best-in-class services.

What our clients say…

I have hired Greg and the Trinity team multiple times for work on my own websites, and have also hired them to work on behalf of multiple clients. He is simply a pleasure to work with, in every respect. Smart but without the giant ego of some developers, Trinity Web Media works with his clients to achieve their vision in the best way possible — with careful attention to their interests, and thoughtful recommendations based on his expertise. • Susan Baier – Founding Marketing Strategist – Audience Audit
